Frixos Georgiades founded the original Athena back in 1973 on the Southside of Glasgow. The present day Athena on Elderslie Street carries on the same family tradition of serving authentic, hearty, Greek cuisine at an excellent price and is owned by Frixos’ Grandson Kevin Campbell.



Our kitchen is headed up Muli Mukja who puts together traditional family recipes of delicious rustic food, using fresh local ingredients and Cypriot produce. House specialties include our Kleftico, slow cooked lamb shank and Mezedes. We offer a great selection of Greek starters, mains and desserts – our menu is not for the faint hearted though – we serve hearty portions here!

What is Greek Yoghurt?

Why is Greek yoghurt is better than any regular yoghurt? You should first know the know the differences. Greek yoghurt is made through a process of straining the yoghurt through a cloth or paper bag. This way you separate the whey from the yoghurt. This way it becomes thicker and creamier while maintaining a desirable tart taste.

Greek Yoghurt has two times more protein than normal yoghurt.

Due to the large amount of protein you will feel full for a longer period of time, making it the perfect replacement for those unhealthy snacks. The recent spike in popularity of Greek yoghurt in US and Western Europe has greatly increased in the past few years due to the intense marketing campaigns and it’s health benefits.

Does it have valuable nutrients?

Calcium
It is indispensable to ensure soundness and bone muscle and nerve cell function. Calcium is stored in bones and provides strength in the form of calcium phosphate and calcium citrate. Calcium is involved in muscle function, and in ordering the muscle nerves. Calcium is found primary in lactate products. They provide between 60 and 80% of total calcium consumption.
